Borden’s Savannah Sutherland claims NCAA title and sets records along the way
Savannah Sutherland from Borden won the women’s 400-metre hurdle title during the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Austin, Texas. Alongside her new title, Sutherland ran a lifetime best 54.45 seconds.
Sutherland improved her previous time by almost a full second (55.36) and set a University of Michigan record, Canadian U23 record, a world standard and 2023 world top-10 mark. Included in the collection of achievements was first team All-America honours.
Goncin, Ostepchuk have mixed start to the IWBF World Championship
Regina pair, Garrett Ostepchuk and Nik Goncin along with the eight other Team Canada players, started the men’s IWBF World Championship off with highs and lows.
Canada’s first game against Germany ended with a 65-52 loss, before the team came back strong and defeated Thailand 83-55 in the second game.
Canada is set to play Egypt on June 14 in their final game of Group B action and the outcome will determine the schedule for the next round.

Mamber, Musschoot, U21 Team Canada claims bronze at Pan American Cup
Canada’s U21 men’s volleyball team had an impressive path toward claiming their bronze medal at the Pan American Cup in La Habana, Cuba, entering the semifinals undefeated and at the top of Pool A.
In their second game, Canada beat Haiti in straight sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) and repeated the winning pattern for their third game against Dominican Republic (25-17, 25-14, 25-22). The winning streak came to a close after being defeated by rival team, USA 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16) in the semifinals.
In the third-place game, Canada defeated Puerto Rico 3-1 (25-15, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16) and claimed bronze for the second year in a row.
Albers, Molleken announced as part of Team Canada for WBSC Americas Pan Am Games Qualifier
North Battleford’s Andrew Albers was announced by Baseball Canada as part of the 2023 roster for the WBSC Americas Pan Am Games Qualifier, set to take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina from June 16-21. Dustin Molleken from Regina will be joining the team as coach and helping guide them through the tournament.
Canada held a brief training camp from June 10-13 at the Toronto Blue Jays Player Development Complex in Dunedin, Florida to prepare for the opening game against Panama on June 16. Announced to join Canada in the round-robin is Panama, Peru, Honduras and host Argentina.
The outcome of the tournament will determine which of the five teams will earn a spot in the 2023 Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile.
Three Regina water polo players announced to attend the Institute national du sport du Québec in Montréal
Regina’s Adrien Van Dyke, Bruno Marunica and Brody McKnight were announced by Water Polo Canada as members of the Canadian women’s and men’s team who will be centralized at the Institute national du sport du Québec in Montréal.
While in Montréal, the 23 female players joining Van Dyke and 21 male players joining Marunica and McKnight will focus on qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Fourteen players from the female and male teams will be chosen for the 2023 World Aquatics Championship in Fukuoka, Japan, which will serve as an opportunity to qualify for Paris 2024.
There are three goals the teams aim to achieve to qualify for Paris 2024. Both the men’s and women’s team will need to reach the final game at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, win gold or silver at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games depending on the outcome of other North American teams and finish amongst the top two at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships.
