Sutherland bronze medal finish
Savannah Sutherland, who hails from Borden, helped secure bronze for Canada in the women’s 4×400-metre relay at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.
Sutherland, alongside her teammates Zoe Sherar, Lauren Gale and Jasneet Nijjar, ran a season’s best time of 3:22.66 seconds, which was good enough to secure the team a spot at the Beijing 2027 World Athletics Championships.
In addition, she also joined the Canadian mixed 4×400-m team to finish fifth with a time of 3:14.93 seconds in the heat and did not advance to finals.
Canada eighth at WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup
Team Canada and Delisle’s Max Major finished eighth at the WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup.
After going 2-3 through preliminary play, Canada played for final standings and fell 6-4 to Argentina, before dominating South Affrica 11-1 and wrapping their final match on a high with a 5-2 win over Colombia.
Fourth for Team Saskatchewan
After going undefeated through round robin play, Team Saskatchewan finished fourth at the 2026 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship after falling 8-6 in the bronze medal game to Northern Ontario #1.
Moose Jaw duo, Marie Wright and Moose Gibson, as well as Kipling’s Gil Dash defeated Ontario #1 5-4, before suffering their first lost 5-2 against Québec #1, which left them to play for third place.
Cyr part of support staff for 2026 IIHF World Championship
Hockey Canada has announced the coaching and support staff that will join the men’s team at the 2026 IIHF World Championship, from May 15-31 in Zürich and Fribourg, Switzerland.
Saskatoon sport physiotherapist, Scott Cyr will join 11 other support staff members for the duration of the championship.
The official athlete roster is yet to be announced.
Erlam dives to top Canadian spot
Margo Erlam, who trains out of Saskatoon, secured 178.50 points in the women’s 3-metre semifinals on May 2 and earned Canada’s top result on the final day of the World Cup Super Final in Beijing.
Milleker Shykiak, Canada bronze medal performance
Regina’s Clara Milleker Shykiak joined Team Canada in their third-place finish at the 2026 Women’s Water Polo World Cup in Malta, which took place from April 21-26.
The red and white went 3-0 through preliminary play and defeated Great Britain 14-9 in quarterfinals before suffering their first lost 24-6 against Russia. Canada defeated Croatia 19-12 to secure bronze.
Three Sask. wrestlers to compete at 2026 Senior Pan American Championships
Wrestling Canada Lutte announced three Saskatchewan wrestlers among the 20 athletes set to represent the nation at the 2026 Senior Pan American Championships May 7-10 in Coralville, Iowa.
Amber Wiebe, of Regina, will compete for Canada in the women’s 57-kilogram weight class and Swift Current’s Aleah Nickel will do the same in the 72-kg category.
Meanwhile on the men’s side, Saskatoon’s Andrew Johnson will take part in the freestyle 97-kg category.
