Action in Irvine, California wrapped following the 2026 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, which saw Saskatoon-born Blake Tierney swim to two podium finishes.
To open the event, Tierney had a breakout performance and secured his first individual international gold medal in the men’s 100-metre backstroke with a time of 53.18 seconds.
He was back in the pool for the 200-m backstroke event and finished second with a time of 1:56:29 seconds.

Ticket to LA 2028
An overtime win in the bronze medal game at the IFAF World Flag Football Championships secured the Canadian men’s flag football team their ticket to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
After mixed results in preliminary action, Team Canada defeated Mexico 34-26 and claimed more than just bronze. Since the United States already qualified as the host nation for the Games, the top three finishers in the men’s tournament earned Olympic berths.
Assistant coach Joel Lipinski, of Saskatoon, helped guide Canada to bronze while in Düsseldorf, Germany.
