Three Sask. swimmers compete at 2026 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials
The 2026 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Montreal are at the halfway point, and some Saskatchewan swimmers have already earned their place on the podium.
Saskatoon-born Blake Tierney secured gold in the men’s 100-metre backstroke event with a 53.63 second time and finished first in the men’s 100-m freestyle final B with a 50.07 second time. In addition, he also added a bronze medal to his collection after swimming to achieve a 25.36 second time in the men’s 50-m event.
Leo Zheng, who hails from Regina, finished sixth in the men’s S6 100-m backstroke event with a 1:26.85 second time and eighth in men’s S6 100-m freestyle event with a time of 1:19.92 seconds.
Meanwhile on the women’s side, Prince Albert’s Ali Diehl finished sixth in the 100-m freestyle S9 category with a time of 1:12.78 seconds.
Two Sask. divers at Bolzano Diving Meeting
Tazman Abramowicz and Margo Erlam, who both train out of Saskatoon, represented Canada at the 2026 Bolzano Diving Meeting Alto Adige-Sud Tirol in Italy from July 3-5.
Erlam dove to reach the top of the podium with her partner Mia Vallée in the women’s synchronized 3-metre springboard event with a score of 281.37 points. In addition, Erlam competed in the individual 3-m event and finished fourth with 279.45 points in semi-final A but did not advance.
Meanwhile in the men’s 3-m event, Abramowicz finished 21st with 324.95 points and did not advance to finals.
Goncin joins Team Canada at Toronto Invitational
The Senior Men’s National Team, which includes Regina’s Nik Goncin, will compete against three of the world’s top wheelchair basketball national teams at the Toronto Invitational, taking place July 10–14.
Team Canada is set to face Australia, Italy and the United States in a series of exhibition games.
The Invitational is part of the preparations ahead of the 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships taking place September 9–19 in Ottawa.
