Three Sask. athletes named to Team Canada for Glasgow Commonwealth Games
Saskatchewan’s contingent has continued to grow ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games as three more athletes were named to represent the nation.
Saskatoon gymnast, Jordan Carroll, will be making his debut at the Games with the men’s artistic team and will also be the sole representative for Canada in the pommel horse event.
On the platform, Saskatoon’s Etta Love will be making her Commonwealth debut in the 86+-kilogram event for weightlifting.
Meanwhile in athletics, Savannah Sutherland of Borden will be competing in the women’s 400-metre hurdles event.
Canada undefeated at 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships
For the first time in event history, China is hosting the 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships, which will conclude on July 17.
Team Canada, which features Langenburg’s Kerrie Buchberger, is currently sitting top of their pool after going undefeated through preliminary play.
The red and white defeated Hungary 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-8) to open their time at the championships before taking another victory over Slovenia 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 29-27). Preliminary action wrapped with Canada defeating Japan 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-16).
Canada will look ahead to their first playoff game against France.
Canada concludes time at Canada Cup Women’s International Softball Championship
Jorde Chartrand, who hails from Weyburn, joined the Canada Elite Team at the 2026 Canada Cup Women’s International Softball Championship from July 6-12, in Surrey, B.C.
After going 5-1 through pool play, Canada Elite Team dominated Brazil 7-0 in playoffs before their time at the championship came to an end after they fell 7-0 to Colorado.
Three Sask. swimmers to attend 2026 Pan and Para Pan Pacific Championships
Saskatoon-born Blake Tierney was named among the group of 42 swimmers set to represent Canada from August 10-15, at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California.
Later in the month, Saskatoon’s Shelby Newkirk and Prince Albert’s Ali Diehl will join 18 other swimmers named to represent the nation for the Para Pan Pacific Championships taking place August 28-30, in Walnut, California. They’ll be joined by coach Ryan Jones of Saskatoon.
DaSilva to coach at 2026 U17 World Hockey Challenge
Hockey Canada announced Dan DaSilva, who hails from saskatoon, as part of the coaching staff that will lead the nation through the 2026 U17 World Challenge, set for November 1-7 in Oakville, Ontario.
DaSilva will guide Team Canada Red as he makes his international coaching debut.
Two Sask. coaches named to 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup
From Aug. 3-8 in Edmonton, two Saskatchewan coaches will help lead Canada’s national men’s summer U-18 team at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Ryan McDonald, of Prince Albert, will be attending as assistant coach, while Saskatoon’s Jeff Harvey will join as goaltending coach.
Wheelchair basketball training camp
Regina duo, Nik Goncin and Garrett Ostepchuk, joined Aberdeen’s Kyrell Sopotyk alongside nine other wheelchair basketball players for the Senior Men’s National Team training camp in Scarborough, Ontario from July 8-14.
The camp was held as preparation for the 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships taking place in September.
Bronze for two Sask. wrestlers
Two Saskatchewan wrestlers are shinning in bronze after their performance at the 2026 U20 Pan-American Championships, which took place from July 9-11, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Elizabeth Chapman, who hails from Saskatoon, claimed bronze in the women’s 55-kilogram category after defeating Colombia’s Alejandra Serrano Roa.
Meanwhile on the men’s side, Regina’s Javier Tonita-Charriez secured bronze in the freestyle 57-kg category after defeating Guatemala’s Jeremy Raymundo Gonzalez.
