Goncin, Ostepchuk are set to join Team Canada for the IWBF World Championship
Regina duo, Garrett Ostepchuk and Nik Goncin were announced alongside ten other elite athletes to join Team Canada for the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation ( IWBF) World Championship from June 9 to 20, in Dubai.
Ten athletes, including Ostepchuk and Goncin, are returning members from the qualifying group that attended the 2022 Americas Cup and brought home a quarterfinal victory over Colombia.
Hosted at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Canada is set to play in Group B at the Championship against Thailand, Egypt and Germany. The outcome of the World Championship will determine the number of spots each zone will receive in the 2024 Paralympic Games.

Blair Seifert receives Skate Canada Volunteer Award
Saskatchewan’s Blair Seifert was honoured among 19 other award winners at Skate Canada’s annual Awards Celebration at the 2023 Ice Summit.
Seifert was named an exceptional volunteer and was awarded the 2022-2023 National Volunteer Award in the Saskatchewan Section.
Team Canada wins gold at men’s World Hockey Championship
Team Canada claimed gold on May 28, defeating Germany 5-2 in the men’s International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship’s final game. The team last won gold in 2021.
Canada earned their spot in the semifinals after they defeated Finland in the quarterfinals 4-1. The team carried on their winning streak and won the semifinals against Latvia 4-2.
Ochapowace First Nation’s Ethan Bear, who played defence for Team Canada, was unable to play in the medal-winning game due to an injury he obtained in the semifinal game against Finland.
Four Sask athletes attended the 2023 Racquetball Canada National Championships
Saskatoon’s Lee Connell and Danielle Ramsay, alongside Macrocrie’s Tanner Prentice and Delisle’s Cassie Prentice attended the Racquetball championships in Winnipeg from May 22 to 27.
Connell was first in his group before being defeated in the quarterfinals. In the male doubles open division, Connell and his partner made it to the semifinals before being defeated.
Cassie Prentice ranked fourth in her group before being defeated in the final game. Cassie and her partner tied for second place in the round robin female doubles open division.
Tanner Prentice sat second in his group and lost in the semifinal game. Tanner and his partner won the consolation champion game in the males double open division.
Ramsay placed second in her group and was defeated in the quarterfinals. Ramsay and her partner tied for second place in the round robin remake female doubles open division.

Crozon, Team Canada even after Day 1 at FIBA 3×3 World Cup event
Humboldt’s Paige Crozon and her Team Canada 3×3 teammates are 1-1 following Day 1 of competition at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup Vienna.
In their opening game on Tuesday, Canada lost in OT 20-18 to the Czech Republic, but bounced back to win 16-13 over the United States later that same day.
Next up, Canada will face Mongolia and Hungary in the remaining Group C round-robin games on Wednesday.
McDonald, Team Canada start strong at World Para Ice Hockey Championship
Team Canada started off strong at the World Para Ice Hockey Championship, beginning with a 15-1 victory against South Korea. Canada outshot Korea 42-6. On Tuesday, Canada is set to face Group B opponent, Czechia.
