Newkirk sets two Canadian records
Shelby Newkirk, who hails from Saskatoon, set two Canadian records at the Ken Demark International Swim Invitational in Markham, Ontario.
In the women’s S6 400-metre freestyle event, Newkirk swam to 6:06.15 minutes to set a new record and later at the meet, broke a 10-year-old record in the SM6 200-m individual medley with a time of 3:30.92.
Norsten wraps first stop of World Rugby’s 2025 HSBC SVNS series
On the first stop of the World Rugby’s 2025 HSBC SVNS series in Dubai, Waldheim’s Carissa Nortsen joined Canada on the pitch from Nov. 29 – Dec 1.
In their first match against Japan, Canada fell 40-5, before they defeated Brazil 38-12 and finished third in Pool C after New Zealand took the 38-5 win.
Their round robin results left Canada to play for seventh place against Japan, which they lost narrowly 24-22.
Nortsen and Canada will prepare for their second stop of the series in Cape Town.

Stewart, Tarasoff, conclude time at Junior Diving Championships
Two Saskatchewan divers wrapped their time in Rio de Janeiro, for the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships.
Kash Tarasoff, of Saskatoon, finished fifth in the boys’ 10-metre event with 378.45 points and eighth in the boys’ 3-m springboard event, with 403.85 points.
Meanwhile, Regina’s Lila Stewart and diving partner, Mathilde Laberge, dove to fourth place in the girls’ 3-m synchronized final with 259.32 points.

Four Saskatchewan hockey players named to Team Canada West Selection Camp
Four hockey players from Saskatchewan were named to the Team Canada West Selection Camp and will take part of the final evaluation process ahead of the 2024 Junior A World Hockey Challenge.
Jaxon Herchak (Waldheim), Ellis Mieyette (Lumsden), Connor Miller (Lipton) and Koen Senft (Regina) were among the 60 players chosen from the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
The final rosters will be named Dec. 5 in advance of the World Challenge, which will take place Dec. 9-15 in Camrose, Alberta.

Messoer named to Canada’s Hockey Development Team
Ashley Messier of Wilcox was named to Canada’s National Women’s Development Team ahead of the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour, from Dec. 11-15, in Finland.
Canada will compete in Group B against Czechia and Sweden.
Fish in seventh at World Speed Skating Cup
While at the ISU World Speed Skating Cup #2 from Nov. 29 – Dec. 1 in Beijing, Moose Jaw’s Graeme Fish finished seventh in the men’s 5,000-metre race with a 6:17.62 time.
