Nortsen captain for 2026 HSBC SVNS Rugby Series in Dubai

Rugby Canada has announced the 14-player roster, which includes Waldheim’s Carissa Norsten, who will represent the country for the 2026 HSBC SVNS Series in Dubai.

Canada is set to play their opening match on Nov. 29 against Great Britain, with Nortsen being named as team captain for the series.

Three Saskatoon Athletes in Philippines Futsal Women’s World Cup

Saskatoon’s Jaydn Steinhauer, Erica Hindmarsh and Jade Houmphanh have donned the maple leaf for the opening games of the inaugural Futsal Women’s World Cup. 

After a 2-0 loss to Colombia and falling 6-3 to Thailand, Canada looks to make a comeback Nov. 28 against Spain.

Fish makes second ISU World Cup Speed Skating stop

Moose Jaw’s Graeme Fish made his second stop of the season for the ISU World Cup Speed Skating event at Calgary’s Olympic Oval, which took place from Nov. 21-23.

Fish finished 17th in the men’s 5000-metre Division B event with a time of 6:16.43 seconds.

2025 Canadian Curling Trials begin

Action heats up on the ice as Saskatchewan curlers start their time at the 2025 Canadian Curling Trials, with their eyes set on securing a spot to represent the nation at the Milano Cortina Olympic Games.

Rylan Kleiter (skip), who hails from Saskatoon, is joined by Matthew Hall (third), Joshua Mattern (second), Trevor Johnson (lead) and Alex Horvath (Alternate). Team Kleiter sits 1-4 after falling 9-7 to Team McEwen, and will wrap round robin play Nov. 26, against Calgary’s Team Koe.

The other Saskatoon-based team, featuring skip Mike McEwen, lead Daniel Marsh, second Kevin Marsh, third Colton Flasch and alternate Brent Laing is 3-2 following their victory over Kleiter. Team McEwen will have their final round robin match against Team Dunstone on Nov. 26.

Regina lead Ben Hebert and Team Jacobs sit third in the men’s standings with a 3-1 record.

Meanwhile, Regina’s Shannon Birchard (second) has joined Team Einarson at the top of the women’s standings with a 5-0 record.

On the coaching side, Shannon Kleibrink, of Norquay, has guided Team Skrlik to a 2-3 record.

Connell finishes fourth at racquetball national team selection event

Saskatoon’s Lee Connell’s 2-1 performance at racquetball’s Winter National Team Selection Event brought him to the bronze medal game against Ontario’s Trevor Webb.

His time in Quebec came to an end on Nov. 22, after Connell fell 3-1 (11-5, 14-12, 11-5, 11-8) and finished fourth overall in the men’s open.

The event was the first selection opportunity of the 2025 – 2026 season, with athletes competing to represent Canada at the 2026 Pan American Championships and World Championships.

Donsberger in National Athlete Pool

Kyle Donsberger, of Regina, was named alongside two others to represent the National Athlete Pool in skeleton and bobsleigh.

The three athletes will continue working towards hitting performance thresholds and will be given the chance to race internationally when opportunity allows them to fill vacant Canadian IBSF quota spots.

Pletz to represent Canada for World Cup Tour #1

Logan Pletz, who hails from Lumsden, was named as part of the 15 athletes set to represent Canada for the opening events of the 2025–26 international biathlon Olympic season.

Pletz will join six other athletes for the World Cup Tour #1 stop in Oestersund, Sweden.
