Saskatchewan will be represented in all six sports at the upcoming Paralympic Winter Games, running March 6-15 in Milano Cortina, by a small group with a mix of experience.
The contingent for the Games features three athletes with four-time Para Nordic skier Brittany Hudak, three-time Para alpine skier Kurt Oatway and wheelchair curler Gil Dash, who will be making his Paralympic debut. Meanwhile, Dean Seymour and Kaspar Wirz will attend the Games as coaches, with Stephanie Peppler going as support staff.
“Congratulations to the athletes, coaches, officials and support staff representing our province at the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games in Italy,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross said. “Thank you for your commitment to sport and for inspiring the people of Saskatchewan. Know that we are very proud of you and will be cheering you on in Milano Cortina. Best of luck.”
Prince Albert’s Hudak, who already has three Paralympic bronze medals to her name, will compete in multiple standing cross-country and biathlon events in Milano Cortina and has been named a co-captain of the entire Canadian team. She made her Paralympic debut in Sochi 2014, then followed that up with a PyeongChang 2018, where she claimed her first bronze in the 12.5-km standing biathlon. She repeated that third-place finish at Beijing 2022, while also adding a bronze in the 15-km standing cross-country event.
Kurt Oatway, who began his Para alpine career in Regina, was the men’s Super G gold medallist in PyeongChang 2018 and competed in two other events, after making his debut in Sochi 2014. Oatway was set to defend his title in Beijing 2022, but a training accident weeks ahead of the Games forced him to withdraw. Now he’s back and heading to Milano Cortina with multiple medals from this season’s World Cup circuit to his name.
Wheelchair curler Gil Dash, who hails from Kipling, may be making his debut at Milano Cortina, but he’s helped Canada to podium finishes at the last three World Championships, including bronze in 2025, as well as a silvers in 2023 and 2024. Dash skipped the 2025 team that finished third and earned Canada a berth at the Paralympics, where they’ll compete in nine round robin matches with the hopes of advancing to playoffs and battling for a medal.
On the coaching front, Saskatoon’s Dean Seymour will be joining Canada’s Para ice hockey team as a video coach, assisting the team in their fight to unseat the four-time defending champions, the United States. Saskatoon’s Kaspar Wirz will coach in his eighth Paralympic Games in the Para Nordic disciplines — five with Canada, one Games with the Republic of Korea and China and now with Australia in 2026.
Rounding out the contingent will be Regina’s Stephanie Peppler who will be attending her first Games as she works with the Canadian Para snowboard team as a physiotherapist.
“As an amateur sport community, we can be proud of the hard work, dedication and determination that each of these six individuals have shown in reaching the Games,” said Amy Prokop, Sask Sport Chair. “They are incredible ambassadors of Saskatchewan and I would like to congratulate them, as well thank all those who played a role in their journeys to achieve their dreams.”
