Canada wins second match of 2024 Pacific Four Rugby Series

Regina product, Gabrielle Senft joined Team Canada for their 33-14 win over Australia in the second match of the 2024 Pacific Four Series in Sydney, Australia.

Canada will now look ahead to their final match of the series on May 18 against New Zealand.

The SJHL Melfort Mustangs at Centennial Cup

The Melfort Mustangs opened the Centennial Cup having gone 3-0 in preliminary action in Oakville, Ont.

The Mustangs opened the championship with a 4-1 win over New Brunswick’s Miramichi Timberwolves before defeating Manitoba’s Winkler Flyers 6-5 in an overtime shootout, and most recently claimed a 5-3 victory against Ontario’s Sioux Lookout Bombers.

With one game remaining in round robin action, the Mustangs are first in their pool.

Saskatchewan concludes time at National Aboriginal Hockey Championships

The National Aboriginal Hockey Championships concluded on May 8, with mixed results between Saskatchewan’s women’s and men’s teams in Fort McMurrary, Alberta.

After going 2-2 in prelims, the men’s team defeated Alberta 6-4 in quarterfinals and British Columbia 4-3 in semifinals, which secured their place in the gold medal game. Saskatchewan fell 4-0 to Ontario, to take home silver.

The U18 women’s team went 1-3 in preliminary action and finished fifth at the tournament.

Kos to attend Four Nations Bowling Test Series

Regina lawn bowler, Jordan Kos will help represent Team Canada at the Four Nations Test Series from August 25 to 30 in Ayr, Scotland.

Participating countries alongside Canada are, Northern Ireland, Scotland and United States.

Four Saskatchewan athletes named all-star water polo team members

After Saskatchewan’s women’s and men’s teams secured silver at the 2024 NCL 15U Western National Championships in Surrey, B.C., Water Polo Canada named 14 athletes as Canada’s 15U Western All-Star Team members, including four from Saskatchewan.

Regina’s Jesse Anderson and Max Rodriguez were listed on behalf of the men’s team and fellow Regina swimmers, Clara Milleker Shyiak and Lucia Dorgigné were named in the women’s category.

The all-star team members were voted for by team coaches.

Team Canada strong start at IIHF World Hockey Championship

Looking ahead to their third game of the 2024 IIHF World Championship in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia, Canada holds a 3-0 record.

In their first match against Great Britain, Canada came out on top with a 4-2 win, followed by a 5-1 victory over Denmark and a 7-6 win against Austria. Canada’s next game is set for May 16, against Norway.

Damon Severson, who hails from Melville, was named one of three alternate captains for Team Canada.

16 Saskatchewan swimmers at Olympic and Paralympic Trials

Sixteen Saskatchewan swimmers are in Toronto for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Trials from May 13-19, trying to secure a spot for the Paris Paralympic and Olympic Games.

Hannah Ouellette of the Saskatoon Lasers claimed a bronze medal on the Paralympic Trial side, in the the S5 50-metre butterfly event, with a 59.37 time to open the trials.

Court on U17 volleyball roster

Damien Court, who hails from Prince Albert, was named by Volleyball Canada to the men’s U17 team.

The group of 12 players share the same goal of being selected to represent Canada at the 2024 U17 Pan Am Cup in Colima, Mexico in June.
