Varga joins Canada in silver at volleyball tournament
Muenster local, Skyler Varga joined Team Canada at the NORCECA Men’s Final Six volleyball tournament from August 20-25 in Gatineau, Quebec.
Canada went 4-1 in round robin play, finishing top of the team rankings and faced the United States in the gold medal game.
In the battle for the top of the podium, Canada fell in the first set, 25-19 but came back in the second 25-17. Although the final two sets were close, 25-20 and 25-22, Canada couldn’t defeat the United States and took silver.
Crozon, Canada third in FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series
In the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Final tournament, Humboldt’s Paige Crozon joined Canada once last time from September 7-8 in Hangzhouz, China.
Following their win at the Saskatoon stop, Crozon, joined by teammates Cassandra Brown as well as Katherine and Michelle Plouffe, went 2-1 in round robin play and advanced to quarterfinals.
Canada dominated China’s U23 team 21-11 and qualified a spot in semifinals against the Netherlands.
Canada fell 21-19 in semifinals and finished third in the standings.
Ramsay joins Team Canada at Racquetball Championships
From August 24-31, Danielle Ramsay of Saskatoon, joined the Canadian women’s team at the 2024 World Racquetball Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
The Canadians defeated Ecuador in the round of 16 and advanced to quarterfinals but fell to Mexico.
The Championships served as a qualifier for the 2025 Chengdu World Games, which will take place next August.
Clark and Shirley attend Canada’s National Hockey Team Camp
Saskatoon forwards, Emily Clark and Sophie Shirley were among the 48 hockey players invited to Canada’s National Women’s Team Camp, held from Sept. 9-15 in Thorold, Ontario.
Following the camp, players will prepare for their upcoming PWHL season and await the release of the official roster for the 2024-25 Rivalry Series.
Hoag receives Fran Todd All Heart Scholarship
Gravelbourg’s Chantel Hoag was named a recipient of the 2024 Fran Todd All Heart Scholarship.
The scholarship was created with the intention of supporting young leaders in creating meaningful change through curling and was given to student-athletes who best demonstrated volunteer and community leadership through the sport.
Senft joins rugby training camp
On Sept. 7, Regina’s Gabrielle Senft joined 34 other rugby players for training camp in Langford, B.C.
The athletes will train for two weeks and look ahead to possibly representing Canada at the second edition of WXV 1 global women’s rugby competition.
Following training camp, the roster will be announced for the WXV tournament, which is set to take place September 27 till October 13 in Vancouver.
Mackintosh coached Canada to second
Head coach Kieth Mackintosh, who hails from Melfort, was at the helm for Team Canada at the 2024 U18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group C, from August 29 to September 2 in Dallas, Texas.
Mackintosh led Canada to a second-place finish at the World Cup, after falling to the United States 7-0 in the final game.
