Two Saskatchewan swimmers achieve top five at Canadian Swimming Championships
Toronto played host the 2024 Speedo Canadian Swimming Championships from July 24-30, with two Saskatchewan swimmers achieving top five results.
Myriam Soliman, who hails from Quebec but trains out of Saskatoon, finished second the women’s 50-metre butterfly S6 with a 43.56 second time.
Meanwhile, Moose Jaw’s Leo Zheng finished fourth in the men’s 100-m backstroke S6, swimming to a 1:30.66 second time.

Team Saskatchewan competes at women’s football national championship
U18 women’s football teams from various provinces across the country met in Fredericton, New Brunswick from July 22 – 28 to compete against each other for gold.
Team Saskatchewan had a mixed start to the championship, losing their opening game against Manitoba 20-8, before dominating their second match 48-12 against Ontario Black.
Fighting for fifth-place, Saskatchewan brought the heat once again and took the 51-6 win over the National Indigenous team to finish fifth in the final standings.
Canada’s golden at Hlinka Gretzy Cup
Macklin-born, Cole Reschny and Reese Hamilton of Whitewood helped Team Canada claim gold at the Hlinka Gretzy Cup.
From Aug. 5-10 in Edmonton, 22 players from across Canada took on various countries to finish top of Group A after going 3-0 in preliminary action. Canada defeated the United States 5-1 in semifinal action and earned a spot in the gold medal game against Czechia.
Canada edged Czechia to a 2-1 loss after scoring both goals in the first period.
Reschny finished as one-of-two lead scorers for Canada, with three goals and four assists.
Silver Saskatchewan at 21U Women’s Baseball Championship
Twelve players from across the province, joined Team Saskatchewan at the 21U Women’s Baseball Championship from Aug, 8-11 in Prince Edward Island.
Saskatchewan dominated in preliminary action going 3-0 and continued their winning streak into semifinals against Quebec and took the 8-3 win.
In the gold medal game, Saskatchewan fell 8-5 to British Columba and took home silver.
Saskatoon’s Amy Johnson was awarded defensive player honours, and was also named a tournament all-star, along with Saskatoon-players, Braidy Birdsall and Addie Ziebart.
Fourth for Saskatchewan at Baseball Canada Cup Championships
Fort McMurrary played host to the 2024 Baseball Canada Cup Championships from Aug. 7-11, with Saskatchewan securing fourth place.
After going 2-5 in preliminary action, Team Saskatchewan edged Ontario to a 3-2 loss before Quebec defeated Saskatchewan 6-5 in semifinals.
Saskatchewan lost 7-6 against Manitoba in the bronze medal game to take fourth.

Kilmchuk, Canada train for Pacific Rugby Nations Cup
Of the 35 players named to the Canadian men’s rugby team, Regina’s Matthew Kilmchuk is among those training for the Pacific Nations Cup at the end of the month.
The team will train in British Columbia until the Pacific Cup kicks off on August 25 in Vancouver and then travelto Los Angeles for their second game.
Johnson joins Canada in bronze at Baseball World Cup
The Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals took place from July 28 – Aug. 7 in Thunder Bay, with Saskatoon’s Amy Johnson joining in and representing Canada on the international stage.
Canada opened the tournament strong, defeating Mexico 7- 2 and held a 3-2 record in the round robin, to advance to the bronze medal game.
Canada claimed bronze after defeating Mexico 4-2.

Pally has podium finish at rowing CanAmMex Regatta
Calvin Pally, of Saskatoon, attended the 2024 CanAmMex Regatta in Mexico City from Aug. 6-11 with Team Canada.
Pally secured second on the podium in the men’s single sculls event, racing to a 7:53.47 time. As well, he claimed bronze in the men’s four plus coxswain event with a 6:40.09 time.
