Kos concludes her time at lawn bowling championship  

On December 8, Regina’s Jordan Kos concluded her time at the U25 Junior Indoor Championships in Scotland.  

Kos partnered with Erik Galipeau in the mixed pairs event and started strong by defeating Wales & Macao 2-0 (12-1, 8-3) before they lost back-to-back against Australia 0-2 (0-15, 5-9) and Ireland 1-2 (2-9, 6-3, 0-1). The pair finished third in their group. 

In Kos’ first singles match, she defeated Malaysia 2-1 (7-10, 6-5, 1-0) and followed with a second 2-0 (8-3, 7-4) win against Scotland, qualifying for quarterfinals. Kos fell to Wales 1-2 (8-6, 4-7, 0-1) and Ireland 1-2 (4-10, 8-4, 0-1) before her final game against Guernsey in the quarterfinal.  

Kos finished her time in Scotland, defeated by Guernsey 1-2 (1-6, 7-1, 0-1) 

Finished attends fourth stop of ISU World Cup Speed Skating  

Graeme Fish, born in Moose Jaw, made his fourth stop of the ISU World Cup Speed Skating from December 8-10 in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Poland.  

Fish placed 15th in the 5000-metre men’s division A race with a 6:36.25 time and 26 points. 

Silver Saskatchewan at Senior Curling Championships 

Saskatchewan’s men’s Team Bruce Korte and women’s Team Nancy Martin, both claimed silver respectively at the 2023 Everest Senior Curling Championships in Vernon, BC. 

On the women’s side, Saskatchewan went 6-0 in the round robin and advanced though the championship pool to defeat British Columbia 7-2 in the semifinals. In the gold medal final they took on Ontario but fell 10-4 to claim silver.  

Meanwhile, Korte and his crew also went undefeated in the round robin and won eight of their ten games, earning a spot in the semifinals. Playing against Manitoba they won 7-1 and advanced to play Nova Scotia for gold and were edged to a loss to take silver 

Five softball players join 2024 Men’s National Athlete Pool 

Saskatoon’s Patrick Burns, Jordan Hudson, Zach Pierce and Devon McCullough were announced with Warman’s Justin Laskowski by Softball Canada as part of the 36 athletes set to join the 2024 Men’s National Athlete Pool. 

Laskowski and Pierce were members of the 2022 WBSC World Cup Team. The 2024 athlete pool can be invited to the men’s national team training, development and selection camps. 

In mid-July 2024, Canada will host a six-team WBSC Men’s World Cup Group Stage in Prince Albert. 

Chernoff apart of rookie project for bobsled 

Cadence Chernoff from Regina was named with four others to the rookie Project Athlete bobsleigh crew. The group of five athletes will spend their time developing skills alongside the Canadian women’s bobsled team for the North American Cup circuit.  

Yager invited to National Junior Selection Camp 

Hockey player Brayden Yager, who was born in Saskatoon, was invited along with 29 other hockey players to attend the Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp from December 10-13 in Oakville, Ontario. 

The camp will be used to determine which players will Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, in Gothenburg, Sweden. 

Dash makes roster for World Wheelchair Curling Championship  

Moose Jaw’s Gil Dash will represent Canada at the 2024 World Wheelchair Curling Championship and the 2024 World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship from March 10-16, 2024, in South Korea. 

Wrestling Olympic qualifier in Edmonton  

The 2023 Canadian Team Trials is a Paris 2024 qualifying event and will be held December 15-17 , in Edmonton. 

The trials will be run in a pool and ladder formation. According to Wrestling Canada, the pool tournament will take place on Dec. 15 for women’s wrestling and men’s freestyle. From the pool, one winner in each weight class will join three already ranked wrestlers, who previously earned their ranking earlier in the year, for the ladder competition on Dec. 16. 

Once the trial’s winners have been determined, they still need to qualify their respective weight class internationally to attend the 2024 Olympics. The Pan-American Olympic Qualifier set for Feb. 28- March 1 in Acapulco, Mexico will be the next international qualifier. 

Love is named Sask Sport’s November Athlete of the Month 

Etta Love broke two records at the 2023 Junior World Weightlifting Championships and claimed bronze in the 106-kilogram snatch category.
