Schwinghammer opens World Cup season

Saskatoon’s Maia Schwinghammer has continued her pursuit of qualifying for Milano Cortina 2025 and started her season by finishing fifth at the 2025-26 World Cup.

On Dec. 7 in Ruka, Finland, Schwinghammer accumulated 47.92 points in the women’s moguls, bringing her FIS total points to sit at 450.

Team Canada West earns Junior A World Challenge medal

Team Canada West secured silver at the 2025 Junior A World Challenge, which took place from Dec. 7-13 in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.

Saskatoon forwards Rylan Hue and Tao Flory joined defencemen Thomas Ries, who hails from Humbolt and Jaxon Herchak, from Waldheim, in the gold medal game against the United States. Canada West fell 5-1 to finish second overall.

Darbellay named Top 35 Future Olympian

Ava Darbellay, of Lumsden, was announced by RBC as a Top 35 Future Olympian.

Following her performance at the RBC Training Ground Final in November, she has earned a future in sport that will include funding and dedicated support to ensure she has the best start to achieving placement on the podium.

Sask claims numerous medals at 2025 IWWF World Disabled Waterski Championships

Four Saskatchewan athletes brought home medals for Team Canada at the 2025 IWWF World Disabled Waterski Championships, which took place from Nov. 24-30 in Mulwala, Australia.

Dalmeny’s Ashley Baerg claimed gold in the seated ladies slalom event with 860 points, gold in the seated ladies jump event with 877.09 points and an overall bronze in the seated ladies category with a total of 2193.74 points.

Meanwhile on the men’s side, Regina’s Blake Lamontagne secured silver in the overall seated category and men’s overall category with 2369.78 points. He also finished third in the seated men’s trick event with 909.72 points.

In addition, Saskatoon’s David Wassill attended as Team Canada’s coach.

Cyr to join Team Canada

Physiotherapist Scott Cyr will be travelling from Saskatoon to join Canada’s National Men’s Team at the 2025 Spengler Cup from Dec. 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland.

The official team roster is yet to be announced.

Fish wraps fourth ISU World Cup Speed Skating

Graeme Fish, of Moose Jaw, represented Canada for the fourth time this season at the ISU World Speed Skating Cup from Dec. 12-14 in Hamar, Norway.

Fish finished twelfth in the men’s Division B 5,000-metre race with a time of 6:24.90.
