Water Polo Saskatchewan’s development into a national powerhouse didn’t happen overnight but it looks like the hard-earned reputation is here to stay.
Eight consecutive seasons with a Canadian championship and two straight as the country’s top overall program as winners of Water Polo Canada’s National Champions League (NCL) Cup will do that.
So too will a trophy case of Water Polo Canada awards from the 2022-23 season for athletes like Mikayla Hack (regular season most valuable defensive player — senior women), Sydney Krushen (most valuable player — 17U girls’ NCL championship tournament) and Nash Porter (most valuable defensive player — 15U boys’ Western National Championships), as well as for Water Polo Saskatchewan’s provincial head coach Cyril Dorgigne (regular season most valuable coach — senior men and senior women).
And then there is Canada’s push to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris, which is being aided by two more Saskatchewan athletes — Blaire McDowell on the national women’s team and Brody McKnight on the men’s side.
