A year after Moose Jaw held the 2023 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship, skip, Gil Dash and vice-skip, Marie Wright will return to the city this weekend to defend their championship title, with the intention of making history for most titles claimed at the event. 

Since the first championship, held in 2004, Kipling product Dash and Moose Jaw’s Wright, have complied four national championship victories. It is an honour they currently share with two others.  

This year, the pair hope to break the tie and do so in front of Wright’s hometown crowd with Team Saskatchewan 1.  

Under the guidance of coach Lorraine Arguin, Dash and Wright will be joined by second, Moose Gibson and lead Sheryl Pederson. 

Dash is coming off a silver medal win at the World Wheelchair Curling Championship in Gangneung, South Korea. He has previously spoken with Sask Sport about representing Canada at the World Wheelchair Curling Championship in 2023 with Wright and Arguin, which can be found here. 

Wright has also taken the time to share some of her memories with wheelchair curling, including the experience of winning bronze at the 2018 Paralympic Games. 

The event will feature a 10-game round robin with Team Saskatchewan 1 facing off with Team Saskatchewan 2 on March 24, in the Moose Jaw Curling Centre.
