Canada eliminated at IIHF World Juniors Championship
A 3-2 loss to Czechia in the quarterfinals on January 2, ousted Canada, including Saskatoon forward Braden Yager, from the IIHF World Junior Championship.
In that game, Canada was down 2-0 entering the second period, but tied the score at two by the end of the frame, with Yager assisting on one of the goals. For most of the third period, neither team was able to break the stalemate, however, with 11 seconds remaining in regulation time, Czechia scored to send their team to the semifinals and eliminate the Canadians.
Canada qualified for the quarterfinals after going 3-1 in the round robin, racking up wins of 5-2 over Finland, 10-0 over Latvia and 6-3 against Germany with their only loss being a 2-0 victory by Sweden.
In the preliminary round, Yager recorded both a goal and an assist in Canada’s games against Latvia and Germany.

Rice receives Tennis Canada honour
Regina’s Keegan Rice ended 2023 on a high note, as he was named the Tennis Canada Male Junior Athlete of the Year.
Among his many accomplishments in the year, Rice won on J200 title in Austria and achieved a career-high junior ranking of 32.
Gross named to Talent ID Squad
Saskatoon’s Calla Gross has been named to Equestrian Canada’s Talent ID Squad in Para Dressage for the 2024 season.
The selection is a part of Equestrian Canada’s National Team Program which was created to provide a pathway that increases the number of Canadian athletes achieving international podium performances.
