Aikens and Canadian rugby sevens team sweep Emirates Invitational

With no competition in nearly a year, there may have been some rust for the Canadian women’s sevens rugby team to shake off ahead of their Emirates Invitational 7s tournament in Dubai April 2-3.

You wouldn’t be able to tell by the results, though.

The Canadian squad, which includes Briercrest’s Delaney Aikens, went undefeated through six games to capture first place.

They’ll look to continue that streak at the follow-up tournament running April 8-9, also in Dubai.

Wiens captures bronze in virtual diving competition

Canadian divers got the opportunity to compete virtually against athletes from Great Britain, Jamaica and the Republic of South Africa as part of the Virtual Nations Challenge on April 1-2.

Saskatoon’s Rylan Wiens had a solid performance in the men’s open platform finals, tallying 450.00 points to finish third.

The event is Diving Canada’s first web-based competition that allows international athletes to compete against each other in real-time, while seven judges from across Canada and the United Kingdom submitted their scores remotely.

Molleken aims to help Canada qualify for Tokyo

Saskatoon pitcher Dustin Molleken is “excited and honoured” to once again represent the red and white, while looking to help the Canadian men’s baseball team pick up one of the two remaining qualifying spots for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Canada’s first shot will come in early June (dates TBA) when the team travels to Florida for the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier. If they don’t qualify at that tournament, they’ll have one more opportunity at the WBSC Final Qualifier to be held June 16-20 in Taiwan.
