Team Saskatchewan eliminated Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Team Ackerman of Saskatchewan was eliminated from the Scotties Tournament of Hearts on February 21, after losing their final round robin game against British Columbia’s Team Coryyn Brown.

Saskatchewan entered the round robin tie-breaker match having played to a 4-3 record. Team Ackerman was defeated by B.C. 13-4, dropping their record to 4-4 and losing their spot in the playoffs due to the last-stone draw rankings.

Team Saskatchewan finished in fifth place in Pool A.

Canada’s women’s rugby 7s claims bronze

Waldheim’s Carissa Norsten and the Canadian women’s rugby 7s team concluded their time in Vancouver for the HSBC SVNS rugby tournament on a high.

In their first match against France, Canada lost 26-14 before having a major comeback against the United Kingdom, dominating 38-0 and 22-5 against Spain, which earned them a spot in quarterfinals. They defeated the United States 12-10 before losing to New Zealand 7-15, qualifying them for the bronze medal match.

Canada claimed bronze after edging Australia 19-14.

Dutchak places fifth at Pan-American Senior Championships

Katie Dutchak, who hails from Saskatoon, attended the Pan-American Senior Championships on Canada’s wrestling team from February 21-24 in Acapulco, Mexico.

Dutchak placed fifth in the 50-kilogram category after going 1-2 in her matches and going 0-0 against Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez.
