Mixed results at Canadian Seniors Curling Championships
Two Saskatchewan teams wrapped their time at the 2024 Everest Canadian Seniors Curling Championships, which took place from Dec. 1-7 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
The men’s team, who hails from Regina, included Chris Semenchuk (lead), Russ Bryden (second), Troy Robinson (third) and Randy Bryden (skip). The team went 5-1 in round robin play and advanced through to the gold medal game to take first place 7-5 against Alberta.
While the women’s team, based out of Saskatoon, with Julie Vandenmeele (lead), Danette Tracey (second), Candace Newkirk (third) and Tracy Streifel (skip), finished round robin play with a 4-2 record. Saskatchewan fell 8-2 against Alberta in their final game to finish fifth in the championship pool.

Tierney receives 2024 Breakout Swimmer of the Year award
Saskatoon’s Blake Tierney was named the 2024 Breakout Swimmer of the Year by Swimming Canada.
The award recognizes the culmination of Tierney’s performance in the 2023-24 season, which includes his senior national team debut at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, to being the sole representative of Saskatchewan on the Canadian men’s swim team at Paris 2024.
Four Saskatchewan hockey players join Canada West
Four Saskatchewan hockey players joined Team Canada West at the 2024 Junior A World Challenge in Camrose, Alberta.
Canada West fell 10-2 against Sweden, with Lipton’s Connor Miller scoring the first goal of the game.
Ellis Mieyette (Lumsden), Jaxon Herchak (Waldheim) and Koen Senft (Regina) joined Miller on the ice after the four were selected following their performance at the Team Canada West Selection Camp.
