McDowell, McKnight announced as part of Team Canada for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships
Water Polo Canada has announced two Regina swimmers, Blaire McDowell and Brody McKnight to join the women’s and men’s Team Canada at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships from July 14-30 in Fukuoka, Japan.
The championships will mark the first opportunity to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. To qualify for Paris, the teams will need to achieve one of three goals throughout their time at the Institute national du sport du Québec in Montréal. McDowell, McKnight and their fellow teammates will have to make the finals at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, win gold at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games or silver if another non-North American team reaches the final, and or finish among the top two teams at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships on the women’s side, or top four teams on the men’s side.
Crozon, Team Canada claim first FIBA Women’s 3×3 series title at Poitiers Stop 2023
Humboldt’s Paige Crozon and Team Canada claimed the FIBA Women’s 3×3 series title at Poitiers Stop 2023, which took place from June 27 to 28 in Poitiers, France.
The team went into the event as the top seed and will continue to hold their title after they defeated China 17-16 in the series’ final. Canada is first in the final standings, with China ranked below them in second.
Kozun and Team Canada take second place against the USA at the Dutch Tournament
Melfort’s Julie Kozun and Canada’s sitting women’s volleyball team attended the Dutch Tournament from June 30 to July 2 in Assen, Netherlands.
Canada started strong against Ukraine with a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-13, 25-17) but were defeated by France 0-3 (25-10, 25-8, 25-18) on the second day. Canada finished the tournament with mixed results, taking a 3-0 win against the Netherlands (25-20, 25-13, 25-21) before ending with a close 3-2 loss against the USA (25-14, 20-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-9).
Canada will continue to look ahead at additional opportunities to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
