Klimchuk, Canada sixth in Pacific Nations Rugby Cup
Regina-born Matthew Klimchuk and the Canadian men’s rugby team finished sixth after a 30-17 loss to Tonga at the Pacific Nations Cup on Sept. 14, in Japan.
Canada will look ahead to their next match Nov. 9 against Chile and Nov. 16 against Romania.
Three Saskatchewan athletes selected to National Excellence Volleyball Program
Saskatoon’s Sara Gray and Emerson Matthews were named alongside Prince Albert’s Abby Wasutyk to the 2024 National Excellence Program for volleyball.
From September to December, Gray, Matthews and Wasutyk will join 16 others in training with the Senior Women’s National Team in Richmond, B.C. In addition, the program offers various opportunities to compete against university teams and receive nutrition education, and mental performance support.
Speed Skating Canada names award winners
Speed Skating Canada named Jason Coutu, of Saskatoon, Official of the Year, in honour of his contributions and dedication to the sport during the 2023-24 season.
In addition, the Kiwanis Speed Skating Club, located in Moose Jaw, was among the five clubs to receive funding from the Intact Insurance Club Excellence Award.
The funding is meant to support grassroot development initiatives and help support the growth of speed skating in the community.
