McDonald named to support staff for Canada’s National Para Hockey Team
Regina’s Kyle McDonald has been named the to the support staff for Canada’s National Para Hockey Team as the mental performance consultant for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
The team is set to gather in Calgary for a seven-day selection camp before the roster is named. Canada’s first competition will be the International Para Hockey Cup, slated to run Sept. 24-30 in Ostrava, Czechia.
Hudey among top speed skaters participating in Medals on Tour cross-country event
White City’s Marsha Hudey, along with Calgary’s Brooklyn McDougall will be in Saskatoon from Sept. 10-11 for the inaugural Medals on Tour event. The cross-country tour will see several top speed skaters visit six Canadian communities, showcasing the sport’s recent success. Hudey is a three-time Olympian who has also skated in several World Cup events. The Saskatoon Lions Speed Skating Club and KidSport are teaming up to host a free BBQ on Sun. Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex, where you will get to meet Hudey and McDougall.

Ostepchuk, Sopotyk help Canada earn first win at worlds
After scoring 10 points and five rebounds on Monday in a loss against Hungary, Regina’s Garrett Ostepchuk put up 12 points and three rebounds on Tuesday against France, helping Team Canada under-23 team earn its first win at the 2022 IWBF Men’s U23 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in Phuket, Thailand. Aberdeen’s Kyrell Sopotyk also chipped in with four rebounds. Canada will take on South Africa on Sept. 14.

Parenteau among Curling Canada scholarship recipients
Spirtwood’s Carter Parenteau has been named one of 11 recipients for the 2022 For the Love of Curling scholarship program. Parenteau is enrolled in the SUNTEP/Education (Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program) at the University of Saskatchewan. As being one of 11 winners, he receives a $2,500 scholarship.

2022 Slo-Pitch Border Battle
Weyburn’s Jon Neuberger will wear the maple leaf for Canada at the upcoming 2022 Slo-Pitch Border Battle, set for Sept. 9-11 at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City.
