Love smashes way to world record
Etta Love, of Saskatoon, set a new world record in Olympic weightlifting at the Junior U21 World Championships in Leon, Spain.
Love competed in the +87-kilogram category and set a record for the first time in 70 years after she successfully clean and jerked 146 kg, surpassing the previous youth world record of 145kg.
Second for Canada at WXV 1 rugby event
The Canadian rugby team and Regina’s Gabrielle Senft wrapped their time in Vancouver with their final match of the WXV 1 event, to finish second.
Canada went head-to-head against the reigning WXV 1 champion, England as they played for the 2024 title. After an intense game, England came out on top, taking the 21-12 win over Canada.
Kristine Lovatt, who hails from Wilcox, was also at the tournament as an official.
Tarasoff, Stewart qualify for Team Canada
Two Saskatchewan divers have been named to Team Canada for the Junior World Diving Championships, following their results at the 2024 Speedo Junior Diving Trials in Gatineau, Quebec.
Lila Stewart, who hails from Regina, finished first in the 3-m Group A event with 420.30 points and had the same top finish in the 1-m event, with 407.05 points.
While Saskatoon’s Kash Tarasoff finished second in both of his Group B events, receiving 402.95 points in the boys’ 1-m and 440.00 points in 3-m.
Both of their results qualified them a spot to represent the red and white in Brazil for the championships.
