Three Saskatchewan swimmers to represent Canada in Singapore
Swimming Canada announced three Saskatchewan swimmers set to represent the nation in Singapore later this year.
Saskatoon-born Blake Tierney will join 27 other athletes in representing Canada from July 11 to Aug. 3 for the World Aquatic Championships.
Afterwards, from Sept. 21–27, Shelby Newkirk of Saskatoon and Prince Albert’s Ali Diehl will represent the nation at the World Para Swimming Championships.
Swimmers selected to Team Canada were based on results from the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials.
Sutherland smashes records
Savannah Sutherland, who hails from Borden, claimed a national title and set four records at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Finishing first in the 400-metre hurdle event, Sutherland ran a time of 52.46 seconds, topping her previous national record. Her time also set a Canadian national record, program record, NCAA record and a NCAA Championship meet record.
Canada wraps time at Volleyball Nations League
Muenster’s Skyler Varga joined Team Canada for their sixth-place finish at the Volleyball Nations League in Quebec City.
Canada defeated Germany 3-2, before losing back-to-back 3-2 against Argentina and France. The Canadians wrapped on a high, dominating Bulgaria 3-0.
