Veeman on Team Canada for ISU World Junior Championships
Luca Veeman, who hails from Saskatoon, is set to join Team Canada for the ISU World Junior Speed Skating Championships, from February 9 to 11 in Hachinohe City, Japan.
Veeman was selected for the championship based on his results from the 2024 Canadian Junior Long Track Championships in early January. Team Canada will compete in the ISU Junior World Cup Final February 1-2 in Hachinohe City prior to the championship.
Fish claims silver at Speed Skating Championships
Graeme Fish, from Moose Jaw, brought Canada one of their five medals at the ISU Four Continents Speed Skating Championships in Utah, which ended January 21.
Fish won silver with a time of 6:14.16 in the 5000-metre men’s race. Canada claimed two gold, two silver and a bronze over the three-day competition.
Oatway at Ski Cross World Cup
Kurt Oatway, Regina-born Para-alpine skier, is representing Canada at the FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup from January 22 to 25 in Veysonnaz, Switzerland.
Oatway placed eighth in the men’s giant slalom sitting race and competed for a second time but did not finish.

Team Ackerman qualifies for Scotties Curling Tournament
Saskatoon’s Team Ackerman earned the right to represent Saskatchewan at the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts from February 16 to 25, in Calgary.
Skylar Ackerman (skip), Kaylin Skinner (lead), Taylor Stremick (second) and Ashley Thevenot (third) defeated Martensville’s Nancy Martin rink 10-9 on Jan. 21 in an extra end and won the 2024 Viterra Scotties championship as the qualifier.
