Two Saskatchewan hockey players named to U-18 Team Canada  

Saskatoon’s Roger McQueen and Whitewood’s Reese Hamilton have been named to Team Canada’s roster for the upcoming IIHF Under-18 World Hockey Championships in Espoo and Vantaa, Finland. 

Team Canada will compete in Group B against Czechia, Sweden, Switzerland and Kazakhstan. 

Wiens at World Aquatics Diving World Cup 

Rylan Wiens, who hails from Pike Lake, attended the first stop of the World Aquatics Diving World Cup 2024 Super Final in China.  

Competing in the men’s 10-metre platform event, Wiens placed ninth in preliminaries with 411.90 points, which secured him a spot in the finals.  

He concluded his time in China in seventh place with 442.55 points.  

Three Saskatchewan swimmers make waves at Para Swimming World Series 

Saskatoon’s Shelby Newkirk and Hannah Ouellette were joined by Myriam Soliman, who hails from Quebec but trains out of Saskatoon, at the fourth leg of the 2024 Citi World Para Swimming World Series in Indianapolis. 

Newkirk broke a previous world record in the women’s 100-metre backstroke S6 with a time of 37.40 seconds. She also added two medals to her collection, a multi-class gold in the 100-m backstroke, as well as bronze in the 50-m freestyle. 

Newkirk and Soliman were part of the 4×50-m freestyle 20-point relay that set a 3:00.44 Canadian record.  

Also swimming to success, was Ouellette, who earned a senior multi-class silver in the 50-m backstroke S5 event.
