Clark helps Canada claim gold
Long-time member of Team Canada, Emily Clark, helped Team Canada capture its third World Championship title in four years with a 6-5 overtime win over the United States.
Clark, from Saskatoon, scored the fourth goal in the championship final of the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Utica, New York.
In quarterfinal action, Canada dominated 5-1 against Sweden before taking a 4-0 win over Czechia in the semis, with Clark assisting the second goal and scoring the third.
Also attending the championship from Saskatchewan were referee Cianna Lieffers and linesperson Alex Clarke.
Goncin, Ostepchuk helped Canada qualify for Paris Paralympics
Regina’s Nik Goncin and Garrett Ostepchuk helped Canada secure their spot in Paris for the 2024 Paralympic Games, at the IWBF Men’s Repechage Tournament in Antibes, France.
Team Canada lost their three round robin games, being edged to a 75-74 loss against Iran in their final match. The duo helped Canada claim the vital, 72-60 win over Italy in the crossover game and their ticket to Paris.
Canada has yet to announce the roster attending the 2024 Paralympics.
Schmitt 2024 Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame Inductee
Gavin Schmitt, who resides in Saskatoon, was announced by Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame as one of the 2024 inductees.
In 2015, he helped Canada claim bronze at the Pan American Games in Toronto, as well as assisting Canada to a fifth-place finish at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
The induction ceremony will take place June 5, in Ottawa.
Canada will look their best for 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games
Team Canada released their Olympic & Paralympic athlete kit, which means all eyes will be on the red and white for the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.
