The 2023 Parapan American Games will commence with Opening Ceremonies today. Para-cyclist Shelley Gautier and wheelchair tennis player, Rob Shaw were named Canada’s flag-bearers.
Four athletes with Saskatchewan ties will help open the Games by competing over the weekend in wheelchair basketball, Para cycling and Para swimming.
Nik Goncin and Garrett Ostepchuk, Men’s Wheelchair Basketball
Regina duo, Nik Goncin and Garrett Ostepchuk, will start their time in Santiago with a preliminary game against Chile on Saturday, at 5:30 p.m. and will play Venezuela the following day in their second preliminary game at 1:00 p.m.
Keely Shaw, Para Cycling
Midale’s Keely Shaw will compete in her first race of the Games on Sunday, at 7:30 a.m., in the C1-C5 Road Individual Time Trial.
Myriam Soliman, Para Swimming
Myriam Soliman, who hails from Quebec but trains out of Saskatoon, will race for gold on Saturday in the women’s SM7 200-metre individual medley at 2 p.m.
