Tierney reaches podium on World Cup Tour
On Oct. 3, Saskatoon swimmer Blake Tierney wrapped his first stop of the World Cup Tour in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Tierney secured silver in the men’s 200-metre backstroke with a time of 1:50.74 seconds and finished fourth in the men’s 100-metre backstroke with a time of 50.08 seconds. He also finished tenth in the 50-m backstroke event (23.90) and thirteenth in the 100-m freestyle race (47.99).
He will now look ahead to the second stop of the tour in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from Oct. 8-10.
Sask. brings home bronze from 2026 World Archery 3D Championships
Four Saskatchewan archers attended the 2026 World Archery 3D Championships in Yankton, South Dakota and returned home with a bronze medal.
In the compound bow category, Andrea Wiens (Raymore) took home bronze after her performance in the women’s division, while Sarah St. Amant (Edam) finished fifteenth. Blair St. Amant (Edam) finished 28th overall in the men’s division.
In addition, Wiens finished ninth in the mixed teams category.
Meanwhile in the barebow category, Jovica Dujukic (North Battleford) placed fourteenth in addition to a tenth-place finish with the Canadian men’s team.
Newkirk sets two Canadian records
Saskatoon’s Shelby Newkirk set two new Canadian records while swimming at the Norm Banfeild Memorial in Regina.
She first made waves in the SB5 50-metre breaststroke event with a time of 49.56 seconds, before setting her second record in the S7 200-m freestyle event with a time of 2:34.09 seconds.
Sask athletes, coach selected for U18 national team
The Canadian U18 women’s softball team will be headed to the WBSC Pan American Championship from Nov. 21-28 in El Salvador with some Saskatchewan talent in tow.
Saskatoon’s Emma Frisky has been selected to the 16-player roster, while White City’s Hailey Sidebottom was named as an alternate.
Also joining the team as head coach will be Keith Mackintosh.
