Crozon, Canada win FIBA 3×3 silver

It was a historic week for Humboldt’s Paige Crozon, as she she was a part of Team Canada’s FIBA 3×3 silver medal winning team at this week’s World Cup. Canada fell 16-13 to France in the gold medal game, but in the process, claimed the inaugural silver medal in the event.

Wiens, Zsombor-Murray open World Championships in style

It isn’t taking long for Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray to get comfortable as teammates. Wiens, a Pike Lake, Sask. product, claimed a bronze medal alongside his teammate in the Men’s 10 metre synchro event at the 2022 FINA World Championships.

Their score of 467.79 was good enough for the team’s first World Championship medal as teammate’s and Canada’s first-ever medal in the event.

Wiens, Erlam, Carroll will be off to Commonwealth’s

Wiens, as well as Margo Erlam, who trains in Saskatoon with Wiens, will both be diving for Canada at the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games. Wiens and Erlam were among 10 divers officially named to Diving Canada’s roster, while Saskatoon-based Mary Carroll is among the coach staff.

Wiens was a member of Team Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Quartet of Saskatchewan products join Athletics Canada’s Commonwealth contigent

Also announced this week was Athletic Canada’s team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Saskatoon products Michelle Harrison and Anicka Newell will both be representing Canada at the event. Harrison recently won gold at the Canadian track and field national championships, repeating on her win from 2021 with a time of 12.99.

Also making the trip to Birmingham are para lead Carla Nichols and massage therapist Al Bodnarchuk.

Saskatchewan shines at track and field nationals

Harrison wasn’t the only Saskatchewan athlete to have success this week in Langley at the Canadian track and field national championships. University of Saskatchewan Huskie Avery Pearson won gold in the women’s U-20 800 metres with a time of 2:09.23. Fellow Huskie Olamide Olaloku won silver in the women’s U-20 Triple Jump, reaching 11.89 metres.

Brendan Cote-Williams won gold in both the men’s para ambulatory 200 and 400 metres, while fellow Running Wild Athletics club member Astrid Nyame won bronze in the women’s 100 metre hurdle.

2020 Paralympian Jessica Frotten won gold in both the Women’s para wheelchair 100, 400, 800 and 1500 metre dash, while Cyclone Athletics teammate Teddy Hudye won gold in both the men’s discus throw and shot put.
