Norsten named to Canada’s rugby 7s team

Waldheim-born, Carissa Nortsen was named to the Canadian rugby sevens team for the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series in Dubai, starting on November 29. 

Canada is set to compete against Japan, Brazil and New Zealand on their first stop.

McKnight shines in silver

Brody McKnight, who hails from Regina, joined Team Canada in claiming silver at the 2024 Pan American Water Polo Championship, after taking the 14-9 victory over host team, Colombia.

Canada opened their time at the championship by edging Argentina to a 16-15 loss before dominating Panama 26-3 and Venezuela 29-3. In their fourth match, Canada fell 8-5 against Brazil before making a 30-3 comeback over Mexico.

Fish finishes fourth at Speed Skating Cup

Graeme Fish, of Moose Jaw, represented Canada for the second time this season at the ISU World Speed Skating Cup from Nov. 22-24 in Nagano, Japan.

Fish finished fourth in the men’s 5,000-metre race with a 6:17.33 time and will look ahead to the ISU World Speed Skating Cup #2 from Nov.29 – Dec. 1 in Beijing.

Stewart, Tarasoff, at World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships

Two Saskatchewan divers joined Team Canada at World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships from Nov. 24-Dec. 1, in Rio de Janeiro

Regina’s Lila Stewart finished 16th in the girl’s 1-metre springboard preliminary event with 327.90 points and did not advance to finals.

While Kash Tarasoff, of Saskatoon, is set to compete in the boy’s 10-m and 3-m springboard events.

In addition, the pair joined each other on the mixed team with two others to compete in 3-m and 10-m events. The four athletes brought Canada to a ninth-place finish with 301.40 points.

Erlam named Tom Longboat Award recipient

Saskatoon diver and 2024 Olympian, Margo Erlam was named a recipient of the Regional Tom Longboat Award at the National Indigenous Sports Gala on Nov. 23, in Ottawa.

The award was established to recognize Indigenous athletes for their outstanding contributions to sport in Canada.
