Thrice is nice for Stewart at PanAm junior diving championships
Regina’s Lila Stewart scored a hat trick of sorts at the PanAm Junior High Diving Championships, which wrapped up Sunday in Lima, Peru.
Stewart helped Canada to a silver medal in the team competition, won bronze in the 1-metre individual event, and secured a second bronze medal Saturday in the 3 m springboard synchro event along with teammate Mathilde Laberge.
Saskatchewan lawn bowlers win gold at nationals
A pair of Saskatchewan foursomes have come home with national gold after competing at the Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships in Victoria, B.C.
The quartet of Hariette Pituley, Rachel Larson, Heather Howard and Eileen McLelland beat Manitoba 18-8 to win the women’s fours championship, while the men’s fours title was won by the team of Jon Pituley, Murray Pituley, Brandon Watson and Carter Watson in a nailbiter of a win over Alberta.
Saskatchewan also claimed silver in women’s pairs, and took home the Lady Alexander trophy which is awarded for the best cumulative results across pairs and fours competition at the conclusion of round-robin play.
Sask. trio attend wheelchair basketball training camp
Nik Goncin (Regina), Garrett Ostepchuk (Regina) and Kyrell Sopotyk (Aberdeen) were among 17 athletes who participated in a training camp this past week, in preparation for the Parapan American Games which are scheduled for Nov. 17-26 in Santiago, Chile.
The five-day camp was held in Toronto and included a mix of on-court practices and off-court activities for the senior men’s national team.
