Sutherland claims bronze at world championships

With a personal best time of 57.27 seconds, Borden’s Savannah Sutherland captured bronze in the women’s 400-metre hurdles at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.

Also competing for Team Canada was Meadow Lake’s Avery Pearson, who finished seventh in the women’s 800-m race with a time of 2:06.42.

The team was led by head coach Jason Reindl of Saskatoon.

Canada 2-0 at women’s world hockey championship

Saskatoon’s Emily Clark and the rest of the Canadian women’s hockey team are in high spirits after getting out to a 2-0 start at the IIHF Women’s World Championship in Calgary.

Canada opened the tournament with a 5-3 victory over Finland on Friday and followed it up with a 5-1 win against the Russian Olympic Committee on Sunday, with Clark picking up an assist in the game.

Next up for the red and white is a game against Switzerland on Tuesday and a face off against the United States on Thursday. Playoffs begin Saturday.
