Erlam, Wiens medal at diving nationals
Competing on home turf, Saskatoon’s Margo Erlam and Pike Lake’s Rylan Wiens both medalled at the Winter National Diving Championships over the weekend in Saskatoon.
Erlam claimed double gold, winning the women’s one-metre event with a score of 289.30 points and followed that up with a 377.65 point performance to take top spot in the 3-m event as well.
Meanwhile, Wiens, set broke a 15-year-old national record in the men’s platform event, scoring 545.95 points.
Newkirk, Ens compete at swimming trials
Para swimmers Shelby Newkirk of Saskatoon and Nikita Ens of Meadow Lake both had a successful competition at the Canadian Trials April 5-10 in Victoria.
Newkirk took first place in three of her races, finishing the 100-metre freestyle in a time of one minute and 15.54 seconds, good enough to set a new Canadian record, as well as won the 50-m freestyle with a time of 34.20 seconds and the 100-m backstroke in a time of 1:20.76.
Meanwhile, Ens took first place in the 150-m individual medley.
Thibeault headed to boxing worlds
Saskatoon-born boxer Tammara Thibeault is headed to Turkey for the World Boxing Championships May 6-21.
Thibeault, who won bronze the last time the championships were held in 2019, will compete in the 75-kilogram weight class.
