Canadians win four gym medals

Ken Ikeda of Abbotsford, B.C., won a silver medal in parallel bars at the Pan American gymnastics championships during the weekend. Casey Sandy of Brampton, Ont., was third in pommel horse. Anderson Loran and Jayd Lukenchuk, both of the Saskatoon Taiso Gymnastics Club, are members of the six-man Canadian men's team. Kristina Vaculik of Whitby, Ont., finished third in both the women's uneven parallel bars and floor exercise.
Diver eighth at worlds

Sam Valentine of the Saskatoon Diving Club was eighth on platform for the age 14-15 group at the 18th world junior diving championships during the weekend in Tucson, Ariz. Valentine was 19th in the preliminary round of the three-metre competition and did not advance.
Local gymnasts help team finish second

Saskatoon fencer Shannon Commerford has been named to the Canadian lineup for the 2010 world championships. Commerford will be in the foil event.

Loran on national gymnastics squad

Saskatoon's Anderson Loran has been named to Gymnastics Canada's Commonwealth Games team. Loran, the only Saskatchewan gymnast to make the squad, will compete in men's artistic gymnastics at the Games.

Will wins silver in judo competition

Frazer Will of Tisdale took home the silver medal in men's 60 kilos at the Judo World Cup in Miami, Fla., during the weekend. Will was defeated by fellow Canadian Sergio Pessoa Jr. of Quebec in the finals.
Philips at national training camp

Saskatoon's Krista Philips was named to Canada's senior women's basketball team's second training camp roster. The 6-foot-6 forward attends the University of Michigan.

Cory Rublee was the Michael Phelps of the 2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina. Rublee, then of Regina's Wascana Racing Canoe Club (WRCC), won five canoeing gold medals at that event -- which became the hottest attraction at the multi-sport Games.

OTTAWA – Fresh off their unique experience at the Inaugural Youth Olympic Games, Pamela Ware and Marc Sabourin-Germain join the Canadian team set to compete against the world's best junior divers at the 2010 FINA World Junior Diving Championships. The 14-aaathlete Canadian delegation will vie for medals in Tucson, Arizona, from September 1st to 6th.

Christine Selinger smiles a lot. Truth be told, she can't imagine being any other way. Despite losing the use of her legs in a rock-climbing accident nearly four years ago, Selinger has maintained her perpetually positive nature, not to mention an ever-present smile which got even brighter over the weekend when she won two medals -- gold and silver -- in the Para events at the world canoe and kayak championships in Poland.
