Team Canada opens with a 12 - 6 Win at the WWC
June 27, 2010 - STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
The Canadian National Women's Team has won their first test at the inaugural game of the IFAF Women's World Championship. The final score of the game agains Sweden was 12-6.

Ross has sights firmly set on 2012 Olympics

Reuben Ross suddenly has a lot more time to focus on diving. The 24-year old native of Pilot Butte finished his civil engineering degree at the University of Miami this past week, meaning the Olympian can concentrate on qualifying and excelling at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Softball Canada will add Five New Members to Hall of Fame

(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is pleased to announce that Linda Edey (Builder - Alberta), Dave Moore (Official - Saskatchewan), Noreen Murphy (Coach - Saskatchewan), Jackilee Nichol (Athlete - Saskatchewan) and Al Shenduk (Official - Saskatchewan) will be inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame in recognition for their contribution and excellence in the sport of softball across the country. The induction ceremony will take place on November 13th, 2010 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Three basketball coaches with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies are about to stand on guard for thee. Lisa Thomaidis and Jacqueline Lavallee from the U of S women's program, along with Nathan Schellenberg from Huskies men's hoops, are set to begin summer stints with Canada Basketball's national program.

Mandi Schwartz's leukemia has been fought into remission, but her battle is far from over. She's going to need a helping hand for a clean bill of health. Last week, the 22-year old native of Wilcox -- a hockey star who once tried out for the Canadian under-22 women's team -- was told her case of acute myeloid leukemia was in remission thanks to aggressive runs of chemotherapy after the disease relapsed in April of this year.

Brown wins wrestling silver

Vanessa Brown of the Saskatoon Wrestling Club captured the silver medal in the 51 kg category at the Austrian Ladies International. Brown won three straight matches to move into the final. She lost the final to world champion Sophia Mattson from Sweden. Brown won gold at the Pan American championships as well as at the Canadian senior women's championships earlier in the year.

Local Olympic champion Lyndon Rush knows there's a whole lot more to winning than landing a highly-prized bronze medal. The Sylvan Lake bobsledder, who spoke at the fourth annual Special Olympics Celebrity Breakfast Wednesday morning at the Harvest Centre, took bronze at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

For the record - Evan Hardy student breaks three records at track provincials

At this point, Michelle Young herself is a broken record. The Grade 12 Evan Hardy track star, owner of numerous city marks, was up to her record setting ways again at the provincial high school track and field championships this past weekend in Moose Jaw, setting two individual marks and contributing to a relay record.

Knoll wins semifinal

Regina basketball players Kaylee Halvorson and Joe De Ciman have been named to this summer's women's and men's Canadian under-17 teams respectively. Halvorson, from Luther College, is a 5-foot-7 guard and was a member of last summer's under-17 squad as well. De Ciman is a 6-foot-5 guard from LeBoldus High School who was on the men's summer team last year that qualified at the Americas tournament in Argentina. The women will play in the FIBA U-17 World Championships in France July 16-26 and the men's team will play in Germany July 2-11.

Kia Byers of Regina was part of the Canadian squad that won a silver medal in the women's 4x200-metre kayak relay at a World Cup event in Duisburg, Germany on Sunday.

Biletski finds silver lining

While no one would blame Miranda Biletski if she still felt angry about what happened to her, the 21-year-old is not bitter. Five years ago Sunday, Biletski suffered a broken neck in a swimming accident, an accident that changed her life forever. However, she continues to put things in perspective.

Parker assists in Team Canada draw

Kelly Parker of Saskatoon set up Josee Belanger of Coaticook, Que., for a goal as Canada tied Norway 1-1 in a women's exhibition soccer game Thursday in Hamar, Norway. Belanger scored in the 69th minute. Parker beat her defender to the end line then drove a low cross across the face of the goal. Belanger held off a Norwegian defender and directed the ball into the net.

KAMLOOPS - Saskatchewan’s Men’s Youth Team won bronze in the Team competition on Thursday. The team consisting of Teague King (Saskatoon), Joel Gagnon (Regina), Tanner Samwald (Regina), Tyler Montgomery (Saskatoon), Keith Boyle (Saskatoon), Nicolas Hallgrimson (Saskatoon), and Wyatt Tyndall (Saskatoon) executed an outstanding team medal performance behind Team Ontario and Team Quebec.
