High Performance Coach – Athletics New Brunswick

Athletics New Brunswick is seeking an experienced and energetic coach who will work in partnership with staff and volunteers to advance High Performance in Athletics (Track & Field) in the province of New Brunswick. The ideal candidate is committed to working on a day to day basis with New Brunswick’s “Train to Train” and “Train to Compete” athletes, as defined by the LTAD. This will occur in a training group setting, leading to improved national results and a stronger national team presence. This is a fulltime, 2-year contract position which, provided all criteria and standards are met, could evolve into a four to eight year position, including renewals.

Athletics: Canada publishes Olympic Games Selection Criteria
Athletics Canada published its selection criteria for nomination to the 2012 Olympic Games team. Athletics (track and field) at the Olympic Games in London, England takes place during the second week of competition - August 3 to 12. The criteria reflect an athlete's performance readiness to finish in the top 12, or top 24 for selected Rising Stars. >> more NEWS

Canadian Athletes Now Fund Canadian Athletes Now (CAN) Fund
Deadline: January 6, 2012
Canadian Athletes Now Fund Canadian Athletes Now (CAN) Fund is a not for profit organization devoted solely to raising funds and awareness for elite Canadian athletes. CAN Fund has raised over $13 million and proudly supported 80% of the Canadian athletes that competed in Vancouver. With every donation the donor finds out the name of the athlete they have supported and receives a tax receipt. Direct funding is provided to both able-bodied and Paralympic athletes and summer and winter athletes are eligible to apply for funding twice a year. Approved athletes receive $6,000 per application and up to $12,000 a year from CAN Fund. Athletes use this direct funding for coaching, equipment, better nutrition, travel, team fees and basic living expenses. Applying to the Canadian Athletes Now Fund. >> more NEWS

Canada's Women's National Team was 'Made For This'
The excitement surrounding 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying continues to grow as the Canadian Soccer Association’s ‘Made For This’ campaign picks up steam.Canada will host the qualifying event for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament at London 2012 from 19 January through 29 January at BC Place in Vancouver. A promotional video starring Christine Sinclair, Karina LeBlanc, Sophie Schmidt and Kaylyn Kyle was launched on 9 December as interest continues to build in advance of the competition. >> more NEWS

Lukenchuk medals in Japan
The StarPhoenix - December 15, 2011
Jayd Lukenchuk of Saskatoon closed out the international gymnastics year on the weekend competing at an event in Japan. Lukenchuk came away from the Toyota International with bronze medals on pommel horse and high bar in a star-studded field that included three-time world champion Kohei Uchimura, who won the men's floor exercise title with a near perfect routine.

Kia Byers inspires students with talk about life goals

Kia Byers could relate to the wide-eyed elementary school students she addressed and impressed on Monday afternoon. Once upon a time, she was one of them. The Regina-born Byers - a 2007 Pan American Games gold medallist in kayaking and an Olympic hopeful for 2012 - vividly recalls being a 10-year-old student at Gladys McDonald School when renowned curler Joan McCusker spoke at an assembly. >> more NEWS
